Bjorn A. Thorsrud Ph.D.
With a Ph.D. in Toxicology from the University of Michigan and extensive postdoctoral research, Dr. Thorsrud brings over 30 years of experience in the field. His expertise spans general, developmental & reproductive, juvenile, neuro, and ophthalmic toxicology. In addition, he developed a preweaning piglet research model for infant nutrition testing, which has been adopted as a preferred method for safety evaluation by the FDA. In addition, he is closely following the FDA’s recent guidance (2025) “Roadmap to Reducing Animal Testing in Preclinical Safety Studies” to consider New Approach Methodologies (NAM) that include in-silico models, organoids, and other non-animal alternatives.
As a seasoned professional, Dr. Thorsrud has held leadership roles, directing preclinical scientific operations, overseeing nutritional sciences, and contributing to the growth of various organizations. His proficiency extends to study direction, quality standards, and business development. Along with his professional qualifications, Dr. Thorsrud is multilingual in English, German, Spanish, and Norwegian.
Dr. Thorsrud is actively involved in professional affiliations, including the American College of Toxicology, Society for Birth Defects Research and Prevention, and the Society of Toxicology, along with a previous appointment as adjunct professor at the Ohio State University. As past president of the Michigan Chapter of the Society of Toxicology, he coordinated close collaboration between local companies and academia with special emphasis on student involvement. He has also held roles as IACUC Chair, ensuring compliance with animal care regulations, and has served as an expert panelist for GRAS dossiers.
Throughout his career, Dr. Thorsrud has presented at numerous scientific meetings and published research, showcasing his dedication to advancing toxicology practices.
